Kirkbymoorside - to the highest point on the NYM.

Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire to the highest point on the North York Moors at Round Hill Trig Point 1497'.

The circular route was mostly off road going out on the west side of Kirkdale & Bransdale and returning down Rudland Rigg, in the east, to Gillamoor & Kirkbymoorside.

The route measured 33 miles and took a leisurely 4 hours 23 minutes.

Parked up in Kirkbymoorside Town  Centre - no parking charges.

Skiplam Road

A short descent into Howldale.

Looking back into Howldale shortly before joining Beadlam Rigg.

The heather on Rollgate Bank.

The track down Rollgate Bank.

Pockley Moor in the near distance with Bransdale Moor behind.

Little Roll Gate (Track)

Yep! Bransdale Moor.

The track leading to the minor road that runs from Helmsley to the head of Bransdale.

Gate on minor road that descends into Cockayne at Bransdale Head.

Bransdale Church.

The view from Bransdale Church looking south east down Bransdale onto Rudland Rigg.

Looking south down Bransdale. The minor road to Kirkbymoorside is at the centre left of the picture.

This is Cow Sike where I left the road (625981) to ascend to Rudland Rigg. I have always had to dismount here not because of the gradient but because my bikes have never been able to get a grip on the loose stoney surface.

Heading west to pick up Rudland Rigg.

Rudland Rigg heading just west of north.

One of many stones on the North York Moors.

Bilsdale TV mast in the distance.

The Rigg Ride north.

On the way to Bloworth Crossing with Bloworth Wood on the left.

Bloworth Crossing (616015) looking south east. I came up to the Crossing from the right, a bridleway, but the track beyond the gate is a footpath. This is the Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast route the way beyond the gate contouring round to The Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge. I have a photograph of steam locomotives working here during the ironstone era.

Looking south along the track I had cycled along. You can cycle this ridge, Rudland Rigg, eventually dropping down to Gillamoor and Kirkbymoorside. It's about 8 miles to Gillamoor.

I went west from here for about 1.5 miles to the Round Hill Trig Point at 595016.

The scarp edge and Hasty Bank looking north west from the track to Roundhill.

That's it! Round Hill trig point at 1497' (almost half a Munro) looking north beyond Teesside.
